Background and Experience
Our school was established in 1931 as a High School (greek “Gymnasium“, that is Grades 7 to 12) for female students. Its type has changed throughout the years. Our school belongs to the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. Currently, it is a Greek Senior High School, or else a school with the general form of "Lyceum" (Grades 10 to 12) in Greece. A great variety of subjects (science, languages, computers etc.) are taught at all three classes. Students choose between two Directions (Theoretical and Science) at the Second Class, and among three Directions (Humanistic, Science and Economy-Computer Science) at the Third Class. Furthermore, our school participates in sport events and cultural activities, such as theatrical plays and writing/speech contests. Students are of low and medium financial background. There are no refugees and Roma attending school. However, there are students with special educational needs (dyslexia). The aim of the school is to meet the students' educational needs in order for them to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills and at the same time to provide them with the necessary skills to get admitted to the University School they wish and through it to join the labor market. Taking this into account, students are highly interested in their school life and educational activities as defined in the official curriculum of the Ministry of Education. It is important to mention that the school has recently participated in the COMENIUS project “United in Diversity: What we need is Europe” The priority of the school is to continue to offer high quality education so as to maintain the high level of students' knowledge. A valuable help in this effort is the participation of the school in European programs so that students, along with the high level of knowledge provided by the school, acquire a European culture and education that is required both for their subsequent professional career and for them as citizens in a multicultural environment. Our school has experience in European programs. Also staff members have been involved in training activities abroad, student exchange programs and youth in action programs. All school staff members are willing to help with the implementation of any emerging European programs. Key people responsible for the project is Mrs Katsouli Dimitra, who has previously worked with KA1, KA2 and Youth programs and Mrs. Charizani Maria. Supervision and financial management will be carried out by Mr. Papafotis, Head Teacher of the school. With the transport and the booking of tickets will be handled by Mrs Katsoulis because of her experience from previous European programs, Mrs. Charizani and Mr. Papafotis, who will have the oversight of finances. The school also has two IT teachers actively engaged in and two English teachers who will help to successfully run the project. Finally, all school staff members are willing to help with the implementation of any emerging European programs.
